5 Portraits of Men at ARTchitecture
5 Portraits of Men at ARTchitecture happened during the Elements of ARTchitecture, a juried exhibition organized by the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center in Fort Myers, Florida.
I had this idea, seconded immediately by my awesome partner, to set up an “impromptu” photo booth—okay, it stopped being impromptu the moment I planned it—to create some people images as well to provide some additional interesting act inside the show. I spoke to the organizers and they loved the idea too.
I had an additional invested interest on this show: Michelle Tricca was exhibiting two wonderful images created in Italy, wonderfully portraying the inside of a church in Italy that had suffered a devastating earthquake just before her visit in 2010. You can check her fantastic work at Michelle Tricca Photography.
Anyhow, after the intro of the art show, I set up a wooden easel holding a white board as backdrop near one of the big columns of the spacious Art Center. A LED light hooked to a tripod worked as backlight, and we handed two small LED modules to light up the faces of anybody who would like to play with us. I used a Nikon D5200 and a Nikon AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.4G lens.
Here are some of the images I created. Hope you enjoy them!

Great portraits! I like your use of light, black & white to convey mood, the shallow depth-of-field and selective focus on the mid-face. You’ve captured some characters here!
Thanks Michelle! Coming from you this is a real treat to read. As you know, these pictures were captured in a very fast paced way, with little time to think. I’m very happy with them, though.
