Captain Kent D. Sheasley
Visit to R/V Knorr with Captain Kent D. Sheasley
Captain Kent D. Sheasley, Master of R/V Knorr, an impressive research vessel owned by the United States Navy, as I photographed him on the topmost deck of the ship.
The Knorr, operated by Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution for the ocean research community, is best known as the ship that supported the team of researchers that discovered in 1985 the wreck of the legendary RMS Titanic in the bottom of the sea after decades of its demise in April 15, 1912 during its maiden voyage.
Michelle Tricca and I attended an invitation to a guided tour of the ship while docked at Woods Hole, Massachusetts, USA, where the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution → is based. We spent a few hours of a cold afternoon of January 2014 with Kent, a passionate sailor with an awe-inspiring knowledge on science research support and a vast experience navigating our planet.
Kent, originally from Piscataway, New Jersey, has been a sailor since 1993.
